India retained the Asian Games women’s cricket gold medal, thrashing Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the T20 final at Korogi Sports Park in Nagoya.

India posted a mammoth 216 for 3, hitting a national-record 13 sixes in a women’s T20I innings. Smriti Mandhana top-scored with 79 off 45 balls, Shafali Verma made 48 off 29 and Richa Ghosh smashed an unbeaten 49 off 22.

Sri Lanka were then bowled out for 69 in 15.4 overs, with Deepti Sharma taking 3 for 6. Chamari Athapaththu top-scored for Sri Lanka with 29.

During her innings, Mandhana became the first woman to reach 11,000 international runs. The gold was India’s first of the 2026 Asian Games and their second consecutive Asian Games cricket title after Hangzhou 2022, extending their T20I winning streak to eight matches.

Pakistan took the bronze medal, beating Bangladesh by 31 runs. The dominant final underlined India’s remarkable depth in women’s T20 cricket and set the tone for what the country hopes will be a golden Games in Japan.
