India enters WorldSkills top 10 for first time with six silver medals
India has broken into the top 10 of the WorldSkills Competition for the first time. The 70-member Indian contingent finished 10th at the 48th edition in Shanghai, which concluded on September 27.
India won six silver medals and 20 Medals for Excellence across 63 skill categories. The silver medallists are Smriti Nambiar for Bakery, Mohammed Salam for Dental Prosthetics, Kovid Ajay Gangrade for Digital Interactive Media Design, Parth Vohra for Industrial Design Technology, Mehrunissa Begum for Logistics and Freight Forwarding, and Saniya Joshi for Retail Sales.
The result marks a sharp rise from the 13th-place finish at WorldSkills Lyon 2024, where India won four bronze medals and 12 Medals for Excellence. It caps a 15-year climb that began with a 39th-place debut in London in 2011.
More than 1,400 competitors from about 70 countries took part in the six-day event, according to the Press Information Bureau.
The showing puts India firmly among the world’s leading vocational-training nations as it prepares for future editions.
