12-Year-Old Donates 30,000 Diapers to Families

A 12-year-old girl in Phoenix, Arizona has delivered more than 30,000 diapers to families in need, the result of her fifth annual diaper drive.
Sloan started the drive when she was seven. Visiting the charity Nourish Phoenix with her mother, she noticed an empty shelf where diapers were kept. She asked why, and learned diapers were among the most requested items because families run out of them fastest.
Her first drive collected about 7,000 diapers. Five years later, the annual effort has grown into a community-wide movement. This year she set a goal of 22,500 diapers and beat it, collecting 30,326 and filling an entire U-Haul.
Unlike food, there is no government aid programme specifically for diapers in the United States, making donations like Sloan’s especially valuable.
Nourish Phoenix says diapers are among the most requested items it distributes. The donation is one of the largest the organisation has ever received.
