Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine is ready for a mutual "energy ceasefire" with Russia, after meeting US President Donald Trump at the United Nations in New York on September 22, NPR reported.

Zelenskyy proposed that both sides stop attacking each other's energy systems. "We are ready for energy ceasefire," he told reporters. "If they don't want us to attack their diesel and refineries, we are ready if they will not attack our energy system, our electricity, heating system, water supplies."

He stressed the offer is conditional, not one-sided. Zelenskyy also said he does not believe Russian leader Vladimir Putin is prepared to accept it, even as Russian oil facilities take heavy damage. US representatives are expected to carry the proposal to Moscow.

Both sides have been hammering each other's energy infrastructure for months, and Zelenskyy acknowledged the urgency of preparing for winter. Protecting power grids and energy facilities, he said, could be the first step toward de-escalation and peace.

For now this is a proposal, not a ceasefire in force, and Russia has not confirmed any agreement.
