US Pulls B-1 Bombers From UK Base Over Iran Plot Fears

The United States has removed all its B-1 bombers from RAF Fairford in the UK following a foiled terror plot that Britain believes may be linked to Iran.
About a dozen B-1s returned to their home stations in the US between October 3 and 5. A Pentagon official confirmed the move on October 4.
British police arrested five men near the base on September 27 on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts. All five were later released on bail. A sixth suspect, a 25-year-old dual British-Iranian national, was arrested in London on October 1 and also released on bail.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham said there were strong indications of Iranian involvement. Iran denied any role and summoned the British ambassador in Tehran.
President Donald Trump said on October 5 that a threat linked to Iran had prompted the move. Vice President JD Vance said the bombers were moved to protect American personnel. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, however, said there was no direct link to the plot.
The bombers had been used for US strikes on Iranian missile sites threatening shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The Wall Street Journal first reported the withdrawal.
