US Removes B-1 Bombers From UK Base After Foiled Terror Plot

The United States has removed all 12 of its B-1 bombers from RAF Fairford in England over the weekend after a suspected terror plot targeted the base, a Pentagon official confirmed on October 4. The aircraft, which had been used for strikes on Iran, have been flown back to their home stations in the United States.
British authorities said last week they had foiled an attempted attack on the base. Five men driving white vans were arrested near Fairford in the early hours of September 27; police found petrol but no explosives, and the men were released on bail. A sixth person, a dual British-Iranian national, was arrested on October 1 on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham said on September 30 there were “strong indications that Iran played a part” in the plot, a claim Tehran denies. President Trump confirmed the bombers were moved because of threats, saying: “They didn’t fly out by accident.” Vice President JD Vance said the move was made “out of an abundance of caution.”
