UN Releases $160 Million for 12 Forgotten Humanitarian Crises

The United Nations has released $160 million in emergency funding for 12 of the world’s most underfunded humanitarian crises, UN relief chief Tom Fletcher announced on Friday.

The bulk of the money, $150 million, comes from the UN’s Central Emergency Response Fund. Afghanistan, the occupied Palestinian territory and Yemen will receive $18 million each; Somalia and Sudan $16 million each; South Sudan $15 million; Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger $10 million each; Chad $9 million; Cameroon $6 million; and Cuba $4 million.

A further $10 million is set aside for people with disabilities across the same 12 crises, with the UN Global Disability Fund adding up to $4 million in support.

“We have 87 million people to reach, and no time to waste,” Fletcher said. He stressed that money alone is not enough and urged leaders to open access for aid workers. The release takes CERF allocations in 2026 to $483 million.

Why it matters: these are the crises the world forgot, and the funding targets the people least likely to get help.
