Trump says Iran ‘ready to fold up’ as US sends third carrier

President Donald Trump said Iran is ‘ready to fold up’ even as the United States ordered thousands more troops to the Middle East, deepening the buildup around the war with Iran.
Speaking on Thursday night at the Peterbilt Motors plant in Denton, Texas, Trump said he believed the US would win the war ‘right after the election,’ referring to November’s midterm elections. ‘Maybe before the election,’ he added.
A US official confirmed to CBS News that the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group and the USS Makin Island amphibious group are heading to the region. That could put three carrier strike groups and two amphibious groups in the area at once.
The official told the Associated Press that about 7,000 sailors and 2,000 Marines are on the way, bringing total US forces in the region to roughly 20,000. The USS George H.W. Bush and the USS George Washington are already there, along with the USS Boxer.
Trump said he was ‘ensuring that Iran will be very quickly ended.’ The forces could arrive by the end of October, the official said. What happens next is unclear.
