Snowtown killer Vlassakis walks free after parole upheld

Snowtown murderer James Spyridon Vlassakis has been filmed leaving the Adelaide Pre-release Centre. His parole was confirmed earlier.
On 16 September, SA Parole Administrative Review Commissioner David Lovell upheld the Parole Board's decision to grant him parole.
The ruling rejected the state government's attempt to keep him in custody.
Vlassakis pleaded guilty to four of the 12 Snowtown murders. The murders took place between 1992 and 1999.
He was 18 in 1998. He was given a life sentence with a 26-year non-parole period.
His parole conditions include random drug testing, a curfew and weekly reporting.
He is banned from contacting victims' families or the media.
He is expected to spend about 12 months at the pre-release centre for reintegration.
Victims' families criticised the decision.
South Australia Police said he had shown genuine and ongoing remorse.
An August 2025 parole decision was earlier overturned on review. The Court of Appeal set that aside in June 2026.
