Russia pounds Kyiv with 70 missiles overnight, 15 killed in Ukraine

Russia fired about 70 missiles at Ukraine overnight on October 7, many of them ballistic, in one of its heaviest attacks on the capital. At least 15 people were killed across Kyiv and nearby regions, officials said. The strikes hit apartment blocks, energy plants and bridges in the city.
In Pryluky, a Russian missile destroyed an apartment building. At least nine people died there, including three children. Forty more were wounded. Six others were killed in Kyiv, Oleksandria and Kremenchuk. Emergency crews worked through the night pulling survivors from the rubble.
Ukraine’s air force said it shot down 80 per cent of 46 Iranian-designed jet drones. But the missile barrage overwhelmed defences in places. Energy infrastructure was targeted again, raising fears of more power cuts as winter nears.
The attacks followed a wave of Russian drone strikes on Kyiv’s bridges earlier in the week. Ukraine has accused Russia of trying to cut the capital in two. Russia says it targets military infrastructure. The war shows no sign of easing as both sides dig in.
