Russia has struck Ukrainian mobile network infrastructure, hitting data centres in a widening campaign against the country’s telecom systems.

Reuters reported that Kyivstar, Ukraine’s largest mobile operator, had its headquarters hit, while Moscow said it targeted a Vodafone Ukraine data centre. Ukraine’s digital ministry said outages affected about 100,000 households.

The strikes mark an escalation in Russia’s targeting of civilian communications, which Kyiv calls an attempt to sow panic and disrupt daily life. Telecom engineers raced to restore services.

Ukraine’s operators have kept networks running through nearly four years of war, often repairing damage within hours. But repeated strikes on core facilities test that resilience.

Analysts say degrading communications also serves a military purpose, complicating coordination. Both sides have targeted infrastructure, but the scale of the telecom campaign stands out. International watchdogs have documented the growing toll of strikes on civilian infrastructure through the course of the war. Emergency repairs were reported under way within hours of the strikes.
