Pezeshkian says enemies failed in ‘economic war’ against Iran

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that foreign efforts to cripple Iran through economic pressure have failed. In a post on X on October 4, he said his government had adopted a new arrangement to manage what he called the country’s special conditions. Pezeshkian accused Iran’s adversaries of trying to cut off the country’s vital arteries to pressure its people. He said economic pressure had intensified in recent months. But with public support and government measures, he claimed, the enemy’s objectives had not been realised. The remarks come amid the nearly seven-month war between Iran and the United States. Washington has intensified sanctions under what it calls Operation Economic Outcast. US President Donald Trump has separately predicted the conflict would end very quickly. He claimed Iran faces 301 per cent inflation and a defeated military. Trump said oil prices would drop sharply once the conflict ends. Iran’s currency, the rial, has repeatedly hit record lows since the war began in February. Traders in Tehran recently exchanged more than 2.5 million rials for one US dollar.
