Iran’s Guard tells Americans Trump’s war has failed, urges protests

A spokesman for Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has urged Americans to protest against President Donald Trump, claiming the US war against Iran has failed. General Hossein Mohebbi spoke at a news conference in Tehran. He read from what he called a letter to the American people. Mohebbi said the only way for the war to end is for Washington to admit defeat and leave. In remarks to The Associated Press, he urged Americans to reconsider their leadership. He called on them to take to the streets against what he described as US warmongering policies. The message appeared aimed at the American public weeks before the November 3 midterm elections. Mohebbi accused the US of using Iran’s nuclear programme as a ruse to plunder Iran’s wealth. He said military action and sanctions would not force Tehran to submit. The war between Iran and the US is now in its seventh month. It began in February. Meanwhile, Iran’s currency fell to a new record low. Traders in Tehran exchanged more than 2.5 million rials for one US dollar. The currency has repeatedly hit new lows since the conflict began.
