Israel marks three years since Hamas October 7 attack

Israel on October 7 marked the third anniversary of the Hamas-led attack of October 7, 2023. Memorial ceremonies were held across the country as Israeli strikes continued in Gaza.
Families of victims gathered at the site of the Nova music festival in southern Israel, where hundreds were killed. Events were also held at Kfar Aza and other communities hit by the assault.
The attack killed about 1,200 people in Israel and saw 251 people taken hostage into Gaza, according to Israeli authorities. It triggered Israel's military campaign in the Gaza Strip.
Gaza's Health Ministry says more than 74,000 Palestinians have been killed in the campaign so far. A ceasefire took effect in October 2025, halting the most intense phase of the war.
This year's anniversary is the first since all Israeli hostages have either been released or their remains recovered. The change has given the commemorations a different tone.
Even so, the violence has not fully stopped. Gaza health officials said at least two Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes on Tuesday. The Israeli military said the operations targeted militants.
Political debate has also intensified ahead of Israel's upcoming national election, with the war's legacy shaping the campaign.
