Iran Says It Received US Counterproposal on Ceasefire

Iran says it has received a US counterproposal on its seven-day ceasefire offer and is reviewing it. Iranian officials confirmed the receipt on September 30 and October 1.
Government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani confirmed the receipt to the state-run IRNA news agency. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi presented it to President Masoud Pezeshkian at a cabinet meeting, according to the Associated Press.
Iranian officials described it as a counterproposal rather than a flat rejection. They have not detailed its contents, and no US account of the delivery was available.
US President Donald Trump publicly rejected the Iranian proposal on September 26, saying it would not be acceptable. The proposal reportedly involved reopening the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for unfreezing about 12 billion dollars in assets, ending the blockade and easing sanctions.
Trump has also said he expects more talks with Iran this week. The exchange comes amid a seven-month-old conflict that has disrupted oil flows through the strait.
