Brazilians Vote Today in Tight Presidential First Round

Brazilians vote today in the first round of the presidential election. If no candidate wins more than 50% of valid votes, the top two advance to a runoff on October 25.
Final polls on Saturday showed President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva slightly ahead of Senator Flavio Bolsonaro. A CNT/MDA poll of 2,007 people gave Lula 43.1% and Bolsonaro 38%, or 47.8% to 42.1% in valid votes, which exclude blank and null ballots.
A Datafolha survey of 4,006 people put Lula at 45% and Bolsonaro at 42%. A Quaest poll had them at 46% and 45%. An AtlasIntel poll for Bloomberg gave Lula 45% and Bolsonaro 42%.
A runoff looks likely. The CNT/MDA poll projected Lula would win a runoff 47.3% to 43.1%, while Quaest had Bolsonaro ahead 44% to 42% in a runoff scenario.
Lula, 80, is seeking a fourth non-consecutive term. Flavio Bolsonaro is the eldest son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, an ally of US President Donald Trump.
