Iran says it received latest US response on ceasefire proposal

Iran said on October 2 that it had received Washington’s response to its latest proposal for reviving a collapsed ceasefire. The reply came through diplomatic channels after indirect talks involving Qatar.
The proposal reportedly calls for the United States to lift its blockade of Iranian ports in exchange for Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz within seven days. President Donald Trump had earlier said he rejected the plan.
The announcement came as the United States completed its military withdrawal from Iraq this week, 23 years after the 2003 invasion. About 1,500 American troops were left in the country before the final pullout.
Iran has painted the withdrawal as a victory. Iran-backed militias, which attacked US forces in Iraq, announced they would halt attacks, while the Iraqi prime minister promised Trump the groups would be disarmed next year.
The US-Israeli war with Iran is now in its eighth month. Tensions remain high around the Strait of Hormuz, where shipping has been repeatedly disrupted.
