India, Canada to Resume Trade Talks on Oct 5

India and Canada will begin the next round of trade negotiations on October 5 as both sides push to conclude a deal before the end of the year.
Canadian International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu announced the timetable after meeting Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on the sidelines of the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Milwaukee.
The October 5-9 round follows the fourth round held in Mumbai. Ottawa is also preparing a large business delegation to India this month.
Two-way trade between the countries is currently over USD 30 billion. Both governments have set a target of USD 70 billion by 2030.
Sidhu said he would lead a Team Canada trade mission to India from October 12 to 17, with nearly 300 delegates from Canadian businesses.
The round will be the fifth in the series of negotiations. Ottawa is preparing to send a large business delegation to India later this month.
