Houthis report dozens of Saudi airstrikes on Sanaa

The Houthis say Saudi Arabia launched dozens of airstrikes on Yemen’s capital Sanaa over the weekend. The claims could not be independently verified.
Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV reported 26 strikes on the Houthi-held capital on Saturday. Residents heard loud explosions as warplanes were seen overhead.
Earlier on Saturday, the Houthis claimed they had launched ballistic missiles and drones at an Aramco facility south of Riyadh. An AFP journalist reported seeing flames and smoke at the refinery.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea said 60 air and missile strikes had hit Yemen in the previous 24 hours. He said strikes also targeted Saada and other provinces.
Tensions have intensified since the Houthis announced a maritime embargo against Saudi Arabia in July. Cross-border missile, drone and air attacks have escalated since.
The fighting has worsened Yemen’s humanitarian crisis. The World Food Programme has warned that three-quarters of the population cannot meet basic food needs.
The conflict began in late 2014, when the Houthis seized Sanaa and much of northern Yemen. A Saudi-led coalition intervened in March 2015.
