Delhi voter-roll protests: police detain 1,000, register FIRs

Delhi Police have detained more than 1,000 people during protests against alleged voter-roll changes in the national capital.
The demonstrations on October 2 and 3 were led by the Gen Z-led Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and other opposition groups. Protesters gathered near Jantar Mantar.
They demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged changes to voter rolls. They also raised concerns about police conduct.
Police registered three first information reports against protesters for violating prohibitory orders. In Mumbai, police separately booked CJP leaders and over 400 supporters over a Shivaji Park protest.
Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi demanded answers from Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He questioned alleged misconduct by police personnel with women protesters and a female journalist.
The CJP has announced further protests on October 10 if its demands are not met. The party says it will continue pressing for electoral transparency.
The protests are part of a wider opposition campaign. An October 6 march to the Election Commission has also been announced.
