UK sees ‘strong indications’ Iran linked to RAF Fairford plot

Britain’s government has said there are strong indications that Iran was linked to an alleged terror plot targeting the RAF Fairford airbase, as tensions between London and Tehran escalated.
The claim came after a 27-year-old dual UK-Iranian national was arrested in Westminster on October 1 in connection with the plot. Five other men arrested on September 27 were later released on bail. Police recovered petrol at the scene but said no explosives were found.
Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham told reporters there were “strong indications” of an Iranian link to the planned attack on the Gloucestershire airbase, which hosts US aircraft.
Iran has denied any involvement in the alleged plot. The arrests have deepened an already strained relationship between the two countries.
Former US President Donald Trump criticised the release of the five men on bail, questioning the decision on social media. British police said the investigation is ongoing and urged the public to remain alert. The case will be watched closely in London, Washington and Tehran.
