MEA: India Engaged With All Stakeholders on Chabahar

India remains engaged with all stakeholders on the operation of Chabahar Port in Iran, the Ministry of External Affairs has said.
Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India is in contact with all partners involved in the port’s operation. He was responding to questions at a media briefing.
The project faces fresh complications after the US conditional sanctions waiver for Chabahar expired on April 26, 2026. The government has said it is working to address the implications.
India Ports Global Limited operates the port through its subsidiary India Ports Global Chabahar Free Zone since 2018. India has fulfilled its USD 120 million commitment under the 10-year contract signed with Iran’s ports organisation in May 2024.
The port is key to India’s connectivity with Afghanistan and Central Asia, bypassing Pakistan. The MEA also confirmed the terminal itself was undamaged in recent US strikes on Iran.
Jaishankar has spoken three times with his Iranian counterpart in recent days about shipping safety and energy security. The port serves as India’s gateway to landlocked Afghanistan.
