Siri AI’s EU delay explained: what we know so far

Apple’s upgraded Siri AI may stay out of reach for EU users for months. Here is what we know about the delay and why it is happening.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that European iPhone and iPad users could wait several more months for the new Siri. A delay of around five months would be the best-case scenario, he says.
The hold-up is linked to the EU’s digital rules. Apple is negotiating compliance with the bloc, and Gurman suggests Apple is withholding the upgrade to push the European Commission to soften its approach.
This is not the first time. Apple Intelligence also reached Europe late for similar reasons. Notably, the new Siri is already available to EU users on the Mac, just not on iPhone or iPad.
The upgrade is a big deal because it is powered by Google’s Gemini models under a multi-year partnership. The new Siri should understand what is on screen and handle complex multi-step tasks.
For now, EU users must wait. What this means for you: if you are in Europe, expect the smarter Siri to arrive well after users in other regions get it.
