Trump’s ‘Super Intelligence’ order: what it changes

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order telling federal agencies to stop saying "artificial intelligence". Here is what the "Super Intelligence" order actually changes.
The order, signed September 29 and titled "Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence", directs executive departments to replace "artificial intelligence" and "AI" with "super intelligence" and "SI" in official correspondence, websites, reports and policy documents.
What it does not do: rewrite any law. Existing regulations, contracts, grants and historical documents stay as they are. For now, "super intelligence" covers exactly the same technologies as the current statutory definition of AI in US law.
The order gives the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology 60 days to propose legislative language for a federal definition of Super Intelligence — the step that could eventually change actual rules.
Trump had previewed the idea at the UN General Assembly on September 22, arguing "artificial" implies something fake. Critics note that in computer science, superintelligence means systems far beyond humans — not today's AI. The name may change before the technology does.
