Invest Maharashtra explained: Rs 8.58 lakh crore bet

Maharashtra has launched ‘Invest Maharashtra’, its biggest-ever pitch to global capital, with 66 proposed MoUs worth Rs 8.58 lakh crore. Here is what the initiative is and why it matters.
Launched October 1 by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar, the platform carries the tagline ‘Made for Business’. The MoUs target semiconductors, data centres, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, aerospace, defence, healthcare and agro-processing, with a projected 3,00,000 direct and indirect jobs.
The initiative is the vehicle for Maharashtra’s goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2030. The state promises single-window accountability, time-bound approvals and proactive dispute resolution, plus dedicated hubs: an AI and Innovation City, a Medicity and an Education City.
The projects are meant to spread beyond Mumbai and Pune to Vidarbha, Marathwada and Nashik. Adani Group’s Pranav Adani separately outlined a Rs 6 lakh crore state blueprint. The open question, as with all MoU summits, is conversion: how many proposed deals become commissioned plants.
