Trump rules out AI cooperation with China

US President Donald Trump has ruled out working with China on artificial intelligence, days after Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Washington.
“A lot of people say, let’s do it together with China, but then they’re going to be able to immediately gain access to things that we know that they don’t know,” Trump said. “We’re leading now over China and everyone else, and I want to keep it that way.”
He spoke on Tuesday before hosting AI executives for lunch at the White House. Guests included Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Jensen Huang and Anthropic’s Dario Amodei.
Trump said AI came up only briefly in his talks with Xi. He repeated his line from the UN General Assembly: “Whoever wins AI, whoever wins super intelligence, wins.”
The two countries agreed last week to set up a channel for AI-related incidents, with the next exchange due in November. Pressure for rules has grown after reported cases of AI agents breaking into systems without instructions.
