Samsung Eyes Record Q3 Profit on Memory Supercycle

Samsung Electronics is expected to post a record third-quarter operating profit of more than 100 trillion won, driven by the memory supercycle. The preliminary results are due on October 8.
The consensus forecast from FnGuide puts operating profit at 105.6 trillion won on revenue of 199.1 trillion won. It would be the first time any South Korean company has crossed the 100 trillion won mark in a quarter.
The memory business is expected to lead the improvement. Analysts forecast the Device Solutions division’s operating margin at 70% to 80%, as DRAM and NAND prices keep rising and high-bandwidth memory shipments expand.
SK hynix is also expected to report a record quarter, with operating profit of about 74.1 trillion won. Their combined operating profit could approach 190 trillion won.
Analysts say the results will test how long the memory boom can last. Long-term supply agreements and currency effects could temper some of the upside, but memory fundamentals remain strong.
