OpenAI unveils always-on ‘dots’ agents at biggest DevDay

OpenAI announced “dots”, always-on AI agents, as the headline product at its DevDay event in San Francisco on September 29. The company called it its biggest DevDay yet, with more than 20 announcements.
Each dot is powered by GPT-6 Astra and runs on its own cloud computer. Dots work in the background on ongoing tasks, connect to apps such as Slack and Teams, and learn user preferences over time. They are rolling out to Pro and Business Premium users.
OpenAI also launched GPT-6.1 Sol, which it says offers near-Astra intelligence at a fifth of Astra’s price. A new Ultrafast speed tier promises up to eight times faster output in Codex. A Pro 500 plan carries 25 times the usage allowance of Plus.
For developers, Codex can now run in the cloud, and new tools include a Decisions API and computer use in the Agents API. ChatGPT also gained a shared Space for team work.
Context: the event came as regulators scrutinise how AI agents access third-party systems.
