Microsoft turns Copilot into ‘new OS for work’ with Code, Autopilot

Microsoft has unveiled its biggest Copilot overhaul yet, adding coding capabilities, an always-on AI agent and deeper Office integration. CEO Satya Nadella called the revamped assistant a "new OS for work." The redesign centers on three capabilities. Home blends chat and cowork, embedding Word, Excel and PowerPoint directly inside Copilot so users can draft and edit documents without leaving the app.Code lets users build apps, dashboards and software using natural-language prompts, powered by the same technology as GitHub Copilot. It rolls out to early-access customers at the end of the month, with previews for 365 Premium and Pro subscribers later this year.Autopilot is a revamp of the Scout agent launched in June. The "digital coworker" carries its own identity in the company directory with configurable permissions, and keeps working in the background on recurring tasks. Microsoft also added AI cost-management tools as enterprises worry about runaway usage bills.
