Meta launches open-source Muse Gadgets hardware

Meta has announced Muse Gadgets, an open-source hardware and software kit that lets developers build small AI devices that work with its Muse assistant.
The announcement was made by Nat Friedman on October 2. Meta released ESP32 firmware and a Linux SDK under the Apache 2.0 open-source licence. The code is available on GitHub under facebookincubator/muse-gadget-sdk.
The idea is to let makers and companies build “gadgets” that connect to Muse. Meta’s reference device, Muse Home Link, plugs into a computer’s USB-C port. The company said 5,000 units will be given free to Muse subscribers in the United States.
Developers can build buttons, sensors, lights and other small devices that trigger Muse actions. A Discord community has been set up for builders. Example projects include meeting-room buttons and ambient status lights.
The move marks a rare open-hardware push from Meta. It comes as the company tries to make Muse a platform beyond phones and headsets, following its work on smart glasses with Ray-Ban and Oakley.
