AMD’s Lisa Su in Taiwan to lock chip supply capacity

AMD chief executive Lisa Su made a whirlwind visit to Taiwan on October 6 to secure chip supply for the company’s AI products.
Su held closed-door meetings with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company and other supply chain partners. The talks covered advanced packaging, testing and substrate capacity.
The goal is to ensure smooth shipments of AMD’s MI450 AI servers in late 2026 and the MI455 series in 2027. Global demand for AI chips has made factory capacity tight.
Su’s visit comes less than five months after she announced an investment of over $10 billion in Taiwan. AMD’s Venice EPYC processor is already in mass production on TSMC’s 2-nanometer process.
Su made a brief public appearance of about 15 minutes at midday. She is expected to travel to South Korea on October 8. There she will meet Samsung Electronics to discuss high-bandwidth memory cooperation.
Samsung is set to supply the HBM3E memory needed for AMD’s future AI chips. The visit underlines how critical Taiwan remains to the global AI supply chain.
