ISRO Eyes Oct 15–20 Window for NVS-03 Navigation Satellite Launch

ISRO is targeting an October 15-20 launch window for NVS-03, its next NavIC navigation satellite, according to a September 21 report.
The satellite will fly on the GSLV F18 (Mk II) rocket from Sriharikota. If it succeeds, it will be India's first successful navigation satellite launch in over three years.
The stakes are high. Only three NavIC satellites are currently usable for positioning, but four are needed for a reliable navigation fix.
The previous attempt, NVS-02, failed on January 29, 2025 after a pyro valve signal loss left the satellite stranded. No navigation satellite has been successfully launched since NVS-01 on May 29, 2023.
NavIC is India's indigenous alternative to GPS, designed for the Indian region with seven satellites. It serves strategic users and is increasingly offered for civilian applications.
The gap in the constellation has limited NavIC's reliability. A successful NVS-03 would restore the minimum four-satellite geometry needed for positioning.
ISRO has not officially confirmed the launch date. The October window is based on the September report, and schedules can shift with technical readiness.
Space watchers will track the countdown closely — the mission is a credibility test for India's navigation programme.
