TakeMe2Space will launch India’s first orbital computing satellite, MOI-1A, aboard a SpaceX rocket on October 1, according to Reuters. The sub-50 kg satellite flies on SpaceX’s Transporter-18 rideshare mission.

MOI-1A is a 6U CubeSat carrying Nvidia Orin NX edge-computing processors. It also carries a 9-band multispectral imager and 2 TB of onboard storage, with about 150 watts of power.

Customers can upload containerized AI models to the satellite. It processes imagery over a target area and sends only the analysis to Earth. This cuts the cost of downloading raw data, the company said.

The company has signed 23 customers, including GIS firms and educational institutions. US-based analytics firm Little Place Labs is among them, founder and CEO Ronak Samantray told Reuters. The original MOI-1 satellite was lost in January 2026 after a PSLV-C62 third-stage failure, following a December 2024 tech demo on an ISRO PSLV that validated in-orbit AI inference.

Why it matters: processing data in orbit could slash costs for agriculture, mining, supply-chain and insurance users, and give India a foothold in orbital edge computing.
