Hyundai to build factory making 30,000 Atlas robots a year

Hyundai Motor Group is building a new US factory with the capacity to produce 30,000 humanoid robots a year, as Boston Dynamics’ Atlas moves from viral videos to real factory work, Digital Trends reported.
Hyundai plans to put 25,000 Atlas units to work in its own operations. The partnership has already cut costs by 60 to 80 percent between the prototype and the first production run, according to Boston Dynamics.
Atlas now trains like a new employee rather than being programmed move by move. The fully electric robot practices automotive tasks at a Robotics Metaplant Application Center before entering real factories, where safety and reliability rules are strict.
Deployment starts in 2028 at Hyundai’s Savannah, Georgia plant, with parts sequencing first. By 2030, Atlas is expected to handle component assembly and heavier, repetitive work.
The plan signals a turning point for humanoid robots. After years of backflips at CES, Atlas is being shaped into a working machine for manufacturing, food and semiconductor plants.
