Honda Tests Highways That Charge Electric Trucks on the Move

Honda is developing highways that wirelessly charge electric trucks while they drive, Motor1 reported.
The system embeds charging coils in the road surface. Trucks draw power as they move, without stopping to plug in.
AutoNext reported the wireless road can charge moving trucks at up to 150 kW. That is fast enough to add real range on long hauls.
Range anxiety is the biggest barrier for electric trucks. Charging on the move could let fleets run longer routes with smaller batteries.
Honda has not said when the roads will go public. The tests put it among the leaders in the race for dynamic wireless charging.
Wireless charging roads are being tested in several countries around the world. Sweden and Italy have both run pilot projects. Honda’s 150 kW target would be among the fastest trialled anywhere. The technology could transform long-haul trucking. Widespread rollout is still years away and will need huge investment.
