Google Makes 1080p AI Video Generation Free in Vids

Google has made its 1080p AI video generation tool free in Google Vids. The company announced the move in late September, powered by its Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash model.
Google Vids can generate videos from text prompts, photos, audio clips and existing footage. It supports scene extension and exact duration control. Older clips can now be upscaled to full 1080p quality.
Individual accounts can generate up to six videos per month without paying. The feature had earlier been restricted to paid Workspace users. Every generated video carries an invisible SynthID watermark so the output can be identified as AI-generated.
The launch came as OpenAI shut down its consumer Sora 2 app and removed the Sora API. Google positioned Vids as the open alternative for AI video creation inside its productivity suite.
Google also cut the Veo 3.1 Lite API price to $0.05 per second in September. The pricing change makes its video models cheaper for developers building AI video apps. The moves signal an aggressive push by Google to win the AI video market.
