AirTrunk adds $1 billion to Japan data centre campus

Blackstone-backed AirTrunk will invest an additional one billion dollars in its Inzai data centre campus in Japan, deepening its bet on Asian AI demand.
The fresh funding expands the 300-megawatt-plus TOK1 campus, which uses liquid cooling designed for AI workloads. The company has secured a one-billion-dollar green loan from SMBC, MUFG and UOB to fund the build.
With the addition, AirTrunk’s total investment in Japan reaches nine billion dollars. The company is targeting 27 to 30 billion dollars in the country over the next five years, growing its capacity from 530 megawatts to more than a gigawatt.
Chief Executive Robin Khuda said Japan’s power constraints and AI demand make it a priority market. Blackstone acquired AirTrunk with CPPIB for 16.1 billion dollars in 2024, the largest deal in the sector at the time.
The announcement underscores how private capital continues to flood into data centre infrastructure across Asia, even as power availability becomes the binding constraint on growth.
