Jammu and Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi became the 265th player to represent India in ODIs when he made his debut against the West Indies at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati on September 30.

The 29-year-old received his cap from vice-captain KL Rahul in the team huddle. He replaced Nitish Kumar Reddy in the XI, with captain Shubman Gill opting to bowl first.

Known as the Baramulla Express, Nabi was born on November 4, 1996, in Baramulla. He is a right-arm medium-fast bowler with handy lower-order batting.

His rise has been built on relentless domestic returns. Across the 2024-25 and 2025-26 Ranji Trophy seasons he took 104 wickets, including a tournament-leading 60 wickets in 17 innings at 12.65 in 2025-26.

That campaign helped Jammu and Kashmir win their maiden Ranji Trophy title, with Nabi named Player of the Tournament.

In first-class cricket he has 170 wickets from 45 matches, and 56 wickets from 36 List A games.

Nabi was called into the ODI squad in the absence of Harshit Rana, giving the selectors a chance to test a pace option who can also contribute with the bat.
