Shai Hope Unbeaten 162 Denies India ODI Clean Sweep

West Indies beat India by five wickets in the third one-day international in New Chandigarh on Saturday, chasing down 352 with 10 balls to spare. Captain Shai Hope anchored the chase with an unbeaten 162 off 143 balls, studded with 17 fours and three sixes.
It was West Indies’ highest successful ODI chase and their first one-day win over India since 2023. Hope, who kept wicket for 50 overs in the heat and opened the batting after Jewel Andrew was hurt, built a 109-run stand with Amir Jangoo, who made 67.
India had posted 351 for 7 after KL Rahul smashed a career-best unbeaten 129 off 87 balls, his ninth ODI hundred. Rohit Sharma made 92 off 85 and Ruturaj Gaikwad added 57. But Hope stayed till the end to finish the job.
India still won the series 2-1, having already sealed it with a record chase of 406 in the second ODI. The match was the first men’s ODI played at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.
Why it matters: the consolation win showed West Indies can chase big totals, while India’s backup bowlers struggled at the death.
