Virat Kohli has confirmed that the 2027 ODI World Cup will be his final appearance at the tournament for India. The 37-year-old made the announcement on Saturday in an interview with broadcaster JioStar, ahead of India’s three-match ODI series against the West Indies.

‘For me, it’s the last World Cup I’m going to play for India,’ Kohli said. ‘That is my motivation and, you know, to leave everything out there. And of course, the goal is absolutely to win the World Cup and whatever it takes, I’m absolutely ready.’

Kohli has already retired from T20 internationals after India’s 2024 World Cup triumph and stepped away from Test cricket in 2025, leaving the 50-over format as his only remaining international discipline. He holds the record for most ODI centuries with 54 and has scored 14,941 runs.

The 2027 edition, to be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, will be his fifth World Cup after campaigns in 2011, 2015, 2019 and 2023. Kohli was part of India’s 2011 title-winning squad and finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer in 2023, when India lost the final to Australia.
