Uruguay hand India 6-1 thrashing in Kolkata friendly

India suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat to Uruguay in an international football friendly at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on October 6. Anirudh Thapa scored India’s only goal.
Uruguay struck first through Darwin Nunez’s penalty in the 12th minute. Thapa levelled in the 22nd minute, sparking brief hope among the home crowd. But Maximiliano Araujo made it 2-1 before half-time.
The second half belonged to the visitors. Rodrigo Zalazar scored in the 53rd minute and Araujo struck again in the 59th. Juan Sanabria added a fifth in the 71st minute, and Rodrigo Aguirre completed the scoring in the 86th.
The result ends a tough international window for India under coach Khalid Jamil. The Blue Tigers drew 1-1 with Panama and lost 0-4 to Brazil in the same period. Uruguay, coached by Diego Forlan, were far sharper in attack.
