World No. 1 Sinner out for rest of 2026 with knee injury

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner will miss the rest of the 2026 tennis season. He has a persistent right knee injury.
He made the announcement on 6 October.
Me, together with the doctors, have decided that I need a course of treatment for my knee, which means the 2026 season is officially over, he said.
Sinner has not played since beating Alexander Zverev in the Wimbledon final on 12 July.
He withdrew from the US Open with the right knee injury.
His team described it as severe inflammation.
Italian reports suggested iliotibial band syndrome. He consulted surgeon Dr Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet in Lyon.
The surgeon advised rest over surgery.
He will miss the Shanghai Masters and the Paris Masters.
He will also miss the ATP Finals in Turin. He won the event in Turin in the last two years.
He will miss Italy's Davis Cup campaign as well.
His No. 1 ranking is now at risk. Zverev, who won the French Open and US Open this year, is closing the gap.
Zverev could finish the year at No. 1.
