Abhishek Porel picked for Bengal’s Ranji Trophy opener

Wicketkeeper-batter Abhishek Porel has been named in Bengal's 17-member squad. The squad is for the Ranji Trophy 2026-27 opener against Delhi.
The Cricket Association of Bengal announced the squad on 7 October.
The match starts on 11 October at the Bengal Cricket Academy Ground in Kalyani.
Porel's selection comes about a month after he was granted bail in an alleged sexual assault case.
He spent over a month in custody after his arrest in August.
The arrest followed a complaint by a young medical student.
Legal proceedings are still ongoing.
Porel is one of two wicketkeepers in the squad, along with Shakir Habib Gandhi.
The match was moved from Eden Gardens.
The stadium is being prepared to host PM Modi for the launch of Durga Puja festivities on 10 October.
Abhimanyu Easwaran will lead the side. Sudip Kumar Gharami is his deputy.
The pace attack includes Mohammed Shami, Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar.
Bengal are in Elite Group C with Delhi, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha and Services.
