Sinner ends 2026 season to treat knee injury, risks No. 1 spot

World number one Jannik Sinner has ended his 2026 season to treat a knee injury. The Italian announced the decision in a video message on Tuesday. He has not played since winning the Wimbledon final in July.

“Me, together with the doctors, have decided that I need a course of treatment for my knee, which means the 2026 season is officially over,” Sinner said. He added that he needed to think about his long-term career and would do everything to return at 100 per cent.

Sinner will miss the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals in Turin. He will also miss Italy’s Davis Cup campaign. The 25-year-old has won five Grand Slam titles. He had a 30-match winning streak this year before a shock second-round exit at the French Open.

His team described the injury as inflammation in the knee. Italian reports suggest iliotibial band syndrome, an overuse injury. Alexander Zverev, who won the French Open and US Open this year, is now close to taking the year-end No. 1 ranking.
