Gill named Player of Series after 334-run ODI masterclass

Shubman Gill was named Player of the Series after a commanding run of 334 runs in India’s ODI series against the West Indies. The India captain averaged 167 at a strike rate of 135.22 across the three matches. His standout innings was an unbeaten 223 off 133 balls in a 406-run chase in Guwahati on September 30, the fastest double century in ODI history, struck with 26 fours and 8 sixes.
He also scored 110 in the series opener. It was the seventh Player of the Series award of Gill’s career, placing him behind only Sachin Tendulkar’s 15 among Indians. India won the series 2-1 despite a shock in the final ODI at New Chandigarh on October 3, where West Indies chased 352 to win, led by Shai Hope’s unbeaten 162.
India had posted 351 for 7, built on KL Rahul’s unbeaten 129 and Rohit Sharma’s 92. Gill said the series showed the team’s batting depth.
