Pretorius smashes record 188 in T20 cricket

South Africa’s Lhuan-dre Pretorius has set a new world record for the highest individual score in T20 cricket.
The 20-year-old smashed an unbeaten 188 off 79 balls for the Titans against the Knights in the CSA T20 Challenge in Bloemfontein on Friday. He hit 15 fours and 13 sixes.
Pretorius broke Chris Gayle’s record of 175 not out, set for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors in the IPL in 2013. Gayle’s mark had stood for more than 13 years.
The left-hander reached his fifty in 24 balls and his hundred in 40. He fell just 12 runs short of becoming the first batter to score a double century in recognised T20 cricket.
The Titans finished on 267 for 3, the highest team total in South African T20 history. The Knights were bowled out for 143, giving the Titans a 124-run win. Captain Donovan Ferreira took 3 for 16.
Pretorius has been in fine form, with his previous innings a 53-ball 101 for South Africa against Namibia.
Why it matters: at just 20, Pretorius has announced himself as one of the most destructive young batters in world cricket.
