Former India fast bowler Praveen Kumar has applied for a role on the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s junior selection committee, according to reports.

Kumar, who played 84 ODIs and 6 Tests for India, confirmed his application to the Indian Express. He is among several former players seeking a place on the panel that selects India’s youth and age-group teams.

There was brief confusion when a separate report said Kumar had “not applied” for a selector post. That report referred to the senior men’s selection committee, a different vacancy from the junior panel Kumar has applied for.

The distinction matters: the junior committee handles under-19 and emerging-player selection, a pathway that has produced many of India’s current stars. Kumar, known for his swing bowling, has worked in coaching and commentary since retiring.

The BCCI periodically invites applications for selector roles from former players with sufficient first-class and international experience. The board has not yet announced the final composition of the junior panel.
