Nethra Kumanan wins sailing bronze at Asian Games

India sailor Nethra Kumanan won bronze in the women’s dinghy at the Asian Games on Friday. She finished with 14 points after the two-race final series at Kaiyoh Yacht Harbor.
She was sixth in the first final race and then won the second. Her total tied with Hong Kong’s Stephanie Norton, but Nethra took bronze on a better head-to-head record.
Thailand’s Sophia Montgomery won gold with five points. Singapore’s Jania Ang took silver with 13.
It is Nethra’s first Asian Games podium in her fourth appearance. She had finished seventh, fifth and fourth at the previous three editions.
Nethra made history in 2021 as the first Indian woman sailor to qualify for the Olympics. She competed at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024.
The bronze is India’s third sailing medal at Aichi-Nagoya. Manu Francis and Prince Kurisinkal Noble won silver in the men’s skiff, and Harshita Tomar and Shital Verma won bronze in the women’s skiff. In the men’s dinghy, Vishnu Saravanan finished fourth.
