Boxer Narender Berwal settled for bronze in the men’s +90kg category at the Asian Games after losing his semifinal to Kazakhstan’s world champion Aibek Oralbay by a unanimous 0-5 decision.

Oralbay controlled the bout from the first round, landing heavy punches while Narender fought back gamely. The Kazakh eased off in the third round but still took it 5-0.

President Droupadi Murmu congratulated Narender on the medal. The 31-year-old, a Subedar in the Indian Army, had won bronze in the +92kg class at the previous Asiad and silver at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

It was a big day for Indian boxing overall. Ankush Panghal stormed into the men’s 80kg final with a 4-1 win over Uzbekistan’s world champion Fazliddin Erkinboev.

Parveen Hooda also reached the women’s 65kg final, beating China’s Li Shu 5-0. India has now confirmed six boxing medals, going past the five won at the Hangzhou Games.
