Major League Baseball has asked the White House about staging a game inside a US national park, and officials have scouted sites in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. The Washington Post first reported the talks on September 26.

The White House confirmed that MLB contacted the Trump administration about a potential game at a national park, but said the National Park Service has not granted a permit. It said this is not a Presidential directive, nor is it being directed by the White House, and added that it is not a White House or Administration priority.

According to the Post, the administration has explored three potential sites in Grand Teton, with National Park Service Deputy Director Frank Lands visiting the park this week. Lands declined to comment. MLB has staged games at unusual venues before, including the Field of Dreams site in Iowa and Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee last year. The 2027 schedule is already set, so any new venue is unlikely before 2028.

The idea has sparked debate about commercialising protected public lands, and officials stress that no decision has been made.
